falling to hoarfrost
at dawn like leaves of salt
already borne along
well before summer straw

sown hand-to-hand
via precarious baskets
of casketed chaff

half believed in
while steaming for weeks
along waving light-fingered wheat

no longer leaning
once the weather eased
oozing of poppies...
